The Black Hole Within

Not long ago in our modern history, there was no such thing as an astronomical “black hole” just as there were no mobile, cellular phones or computer desktops, laptops, and iPads then.  But we are living in a very different post-modern era where objects such as mobile phones, computer notebooks (laptops) and iPads are commonplace technology. Now, even the black hole of astronomy is becoming a commonplace feature of the cosmos. In fact, science is now presenting us what it considers as empirical evidence of the black hole lurking at the very center of our own Milky Way galaxy.  Below are related YouTube videos including a descriptive post (indented text) on the scientific confirmation of the black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy.

In this second episode of the ESOcast Dr. J takes us to the centre of the Milky Way to talk about a supermassive black hole there located.  We will hear from two scientists involved in an unprecedented 16-year long study, which used several of ESO's flagship telescopes to produce the most detailed view ever of the surroundings of the monster lurking at our Galaxy's heart.  How were the hidden secrets of this tumultuous region unravelled?  Watch this ESOcast and find out.

ESOcast is a video podcast series dedicated to bringing you the latest news and research from ESO – Astronomy made on planet Earth.  Here we explore the Universe's ultimate frontier with our host Dr. J, a German astronomer at the ESO.  His scientific interests are in cosmology, particularly on galaxy evolution and quasars. Dr. J's real name is Joe Liske and he has a PhD in astronomy.

ESO is the European Organisation for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere.  Created in 1962, ESO provides state-of-the-art research facilities to European astronomers and astrophysicists and is supported by Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.  Several other countries have expressed a strong interest in joining the organisation. Whilst the Headquarters (comprising the scientific, technical and administrative centre of the organisation) are located in Garching near Munich, Germany, ESO operates, in addition to the Santiago Centre, three observational sites in the Chilean Atacama desert.

Oddly, within each of us, at the center of our being, lies a singularity of no-thing-ness, an emptiness, a void (a spiritual black hole, you might say), which is the Self.  Like the astronomical black hole which gives rise to the formation or birth of new stars even as it sucks in the surrounding matter and energy, the Self transforms us, bringing forth new life in the Spirit, even as it dismantles the structures of our false self system.  As above, so below.  As it is in the within, so is it in the without.  Get to know your black hole within.

About Marc of Contemplative Pathways

Marc teaches contemplative meditation in the context of contemporary mysticism. His understanding of the mystical life is rooted in over 30 years of study, practice, unfoldment, realization and experience, in the course of which he has received the gifts of spiritual discernment and transmission. His teaching work meaningfully shifts consciousness in a student through the process and alchemy of mystical transformation. Marc facilitates the mystical teachings under the style of Contemplative Pathways, enabling others to embark on the spiritual journey by learning the Truth teaching and living its principles. He has been conducting classes and meditation meetings in the San Francisco Bay Area in a classroom, lecture, workshop or group practice setting, for over fifteen years. His methodology of instruction is divinely inspired and firmly rooted in pure, authentic mysticism. His approach to the mystical life is essentially nondenominational, nonsectarian, culturally interfaith, spiritually transreligious, and definitively unitive and nondualistic. His other contributions to worldwide spiritual awakening and the global contemplative movement include spiritual mentoring and spiritual healing practice. Within the context of the great shift in consciousness now occurring all over the planet, Marc’s work presently focuses on individual and collective spiritual transformation and healing through the practice of contemplation or meditation, as the vehicle for transcendence and ascension to the higher dimensions of mystical consciousness. He remains firmly committed to the vision of a global spiritual awakening and the divine promise of humanity’s mystical illumination.
