The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) premiered a remarkable documentary recently on an episode of their Nature program titled “Animal Odd Couples,” about unlikely animal cross-species relationships. The featured animal relationships baffle the scientific mind. But to the spiritual mind, there can be no doubt that divine love underlies and binds these seemingly strange relationships.
I think human beings can learn a lot from these odd animal couples, and, in the process, discover about the compassion, companionship, friendship, and love that abound and flourish even in the animal world. It can be an eye-opener about how the lion can lay down with the lamb in peace and harmony . . . one day.
Here is the Nature episode’s promotional description.
- Love apparently knows no boundaries in the animal kingdom. Despite the odds, there are countless stories of the most unlikely cross-species relationships imaginable. Instincts gone awry? NATURE investigates why animals form these special bonds and what these relationships suggest about the nature of animal emotions. Animal Odd Couples premiered Wednesday, November 7, 2012.
