The year 2014 is the year we emerge from the darkness of the human condition and into the light of God, Truth, Spirit.
We begin to realize more and more the divine spirit nature that we already are. We feel it more. We experience it more. We become in this world that which we truly are — God incarnate.
In a post last year (2013: Year of “Community”), we summarized the unfoldments in consciousness during the past few years, as humanity crossed over from the intuitive phase of evolving consciousness to its final unitive phase. We featured the annual “energy forecasts” of Lee Harris to highlight the spiritual transformations taking place that were emerging in us and in our world.
This year, 2014, is a period of time where we move our “gravity center” of awareness (so to speak) deeper into our center of Being, the heart of our spiritual nature. As a result, we are simultaneously emerging into the light of Truth even as we are emerging out of the darkness of the human condition. We can see this in our individual life experiences and in the developments recently occurring in the world.
In the world, we are witnessing how whistle-blowers and concerned individuals and groups are opening people’s eyes to the deceptions, abuses, injustices, and inhumanities of authorities, governments, corporate giants, financial institutions, and other manipulators of the mind. Illusions are being torn apart right before our eyes.
We continue to see peoples and nations struggle for freedom and the realization of happiness collectively, even as they pursue it individually. The Ukraine is one recent example. There are others in Asia, in Africa, in the Middle East, and in the Americas. We shall continue to see the erosion and breakdown of great world powers, as equality and liberty are made more manifest in our experience. The old world is collapsing around us to bring forth the new. The old forms of an outgrown awareness cannot sustain the new illumined state of consciousness.
We hear of and see remarkable advances in knowledge, science and technology, especially in the fields of medicine, neuroscience, genetics, health, and holistic wellness. At the same time, people are being made more aware and warned of the dangers and degradations to health and the quality of life and to the environment, by things like pollution, genetic engineering experimentation, and other technologies untested for side-effects. We are learning to embrace other sentient beings who share the Earth with us as members of our family, too. We are finally becoming responsible true stewards of the Earth, acting as loving elder brothers and sisters to all its life forms. Our sense of home is growing, widening, encompassing a broader perspective of oneness. Our sense of oneness is emerging albeit slowly, gradually.
Our Voyager spacecraft sent out from earth decades ago has left our solar system and is now humanity’s emissary to interstellar space. Indeed mankind has officially gone out of its house of the Sun to visit its stellar neighborhood. In the span of a few centuries, man is evolved from an earth-bound human species to a star voyager of the Milky Way galaxy, and, now, is evolving into a true cosmic child of the universe.
Even in a conservative and traditional religious institution such as the Roman Catholic Church, we have seen the emergence of a Pope who appears to embody the humility and spirituality of the mystic Francis of Assisi. The new Pope emphasizes the spirit of the law more than its letter. That is certainly a remarkable development for a church that is infamous for its obsession with religious dogmatism and doctrines. But more significantly, with every passing year there are more and more and more individuals all over the planet who are awakening spiritually. Paradise already is: here on Earth, right now. We just need to lift the veil from our eyes that prevents us from seeing — realizing — it.
Darkness has never overcome the light. Darkness will never overcome the light, because darkness is NOT opposed to the light. The darkness (the feminine Yin principle of the mind) is a partner to the light (the male Yang principle of the spirit) by which forms or things are made manifest, visible and perceivable. Truth is, as an energy the darkness always willingly submits and yields itself to the light, so that the light can dispel the effect and impact of darkness on any appearance.
There is no essential reality to darkness. No matter how dark and thick it appears to be, it is only a darkness that precedes the dawn. The light will always dispel darkness in a room, to reveal the darkness’ emptiness and nothingness.
A contrary view to the effect that the light can be extinguished by the darkness is firmly rooted in a belief in duality — in the pole of opposites, in the eternal conflict between opposing forces of good and evil. It is NOT the hallmark of nondualist oneness. It is not a pure and authentic mysticism.
True spiritual healing can only come from a nondual understanding of oneness, where the darkness is not denied or rejected but is instead acknowledged for what it is vis-a-vis the light — an emptiness to show where light can be. No less than the famous Sufi mystic, Rumi, taught the inseparability and partnership that exist between light and shadow.
Truth-seekers and students of mysticism have to guard against “teachers of oneness” who promote the erroneous dualist concept that the “light can be overwhelmed or extinguished by darkness.”
