Soul Food from the Mystical Literature of the Judaeo-Christian
(The Holy Bible) and the Gnostic Traditions

From the OLD Testament —
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord… (Deuteronomy 6:4, KJV)

Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. (Psalms 34:8, NIV)

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness, For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;
For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me, All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord, Forever.
(Psalms 23:1-6, NKJV)

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler, And from the perilous pestilence.
He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.

Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked.
Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.

(Psalms 91:1-11, NKJV)

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.

(Psalms 139:7-8, NKJV)

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
(Proverbs 3:5-6, KJV)

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. (Isaiah 26:3, KJV)

Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save. Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the Lord? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.  (Isaiah 45:20-22, KJV)

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:11-13, NIV)

From the NEW Testament —

You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (Yeshua, The Gospel According to John 8:31-32, God’s Word)

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Yeshua, The Gospel According to Matthew 6:33, NIV)

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. (Yeshua, The Gospel According to John 4:23-24, NIV [2011])

I am the vine; you are the branches.  Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit… if you stay joined to me and my words remain in you, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted!” (Yeshua, The Gospel According to John 15:5-7, NLT)

I and the Father are one. (Yeshua, The Gospel according to John 10:30, NASB)

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. (Yeshua, The Gospel According to Matthew 11:28-30, NASB)

And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. (Yeshua, The Gospel according to Matthew 6:7-8, NKJV)

I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken; therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope. For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One see corruption. You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence. (Acts 2:25-28, ESV)

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love.  Death can’t, and life can’t.  The angels can’t, and the demons can’t. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can’t keep God’s love away.  Whether we are high above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.    (Romans 8:38-39, NLT)

It is written:  “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’”    (Romans 14:11, NIV)

From the GNOSTIC Tradition —

The Kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you.  When you come to know yourselves, then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the living Father.  But if you will not know yourselves, you dwell in poverty and it is you who are that poverty. (Yeshua, The Gospel of Thomas)

Jesus said to His disciples, “Compare me to someone and tell Me whom I am like.” Simon Peter said to Him, “You are like a righteous angel.” Matthew said to Him, “You are like a wise philosopher.”  Thomas said to Him, “Master, my mouth is wholly incapable of saying whom You are like.”  Jesus said, “I am not your master. Because you have drunk, you have become intoxicated by the bubbling spring which I have measured out.”  And He took him and withdrew and told him three things. When Thomas returned to his companions, they asked him, “What did Jesus say to you?”  Thomas said to them, “If I tell you one of the things which he told me, you will pick up stones and throw them at me; a fire will come out of the stones and burn you up.” (Yeshua, The Gospel of Thomas)
